Marble countertops are the most elegant of countertops. One of the main reasons for marble being so popular is that marble has the appearance of stone. There are other properties that make marble unique such as the veins in the stone. No two pieces of marble are the same. If you are considering a marble countertop for your kitchen, you should research the many benefits of having marble countertops.

Marble countertops are very expensive however, they do improve the value of your property. Marble is very durable and lasts for year. When marble is maintained properly, it can last for many years and look as good as the day it was installed. Ancient civilizations always used marble to create statues that still can be seen today.

Marble countertops come in a wide variety of styles and colors. The color is always determined by where the marble was mined. The finishing process brings out all the natural colors and hues of the stone. Marbles is a natural stone that have to be mined. Every pieces of marble that is used for countertops is unique and because of that can be difficult to match. This can be tricky especially if you want to add on to your countertop years down the road.

Marble countertops resist heat more than any other type of material. Marble will not burn or catch on fire, however, the finish may become damaged if you place a hot pot or pan on it. This is why it is highly recommended that you have a trivet or placement handy for hot pots and pans. This is the best way to protect your marble countertop from heat.

Heat from any object will not burn marble but it will burn the sealant that is used to protect marble. This will result in discoloration of the countertop. Any area where a hot object is place will turn dark in color and ruin the appearance of your marble countertop. Once this happens there is no way you can repair the damaged area. The only option is to completely replace the entire countertop.

Since marble countertops are created from natural stone, they easily resist heat, scratches, breakage and cracks. It would take a lot of force to damage marble. When a marble countertop is damaged, it is usually from intentional destruction or a natural disaster.

Granite countertops have become very popular in recent years. They are available in a wide range of colors and come in several different styles and are extremely durable. However, as with any work surface granite countertop has to have special care to maintain its original shine and functionality.

For example, if you maintain granite properly it will become lifeless and dull. You can restore it back to its original shine with just a bit of time and effort.

To restore lifeless dull granite use dishwashing liquid and a micro fiber cloth. Make sure the work surface is clean with the cloth and cleaner before you start polishing. Always use a cleaner that is safe to use on granite or use dishwashing liquid. Harsher chemicals will dull the granite and it will be tough to get the shine back. This is why you should use only mild cleaners. After you clean the countertop use granite polish. Polish the entire surface and not just the main work area.

Manufacturer instructions should be strictly followed to apply and remove granite polish. Granite polish is used to protect granite surfaces from things such as harsh cleaners, food and alcohol acids which can burn natural stone. Granite polish also prevents rings from glassware from forming on the granite surface. The next step is rinse off the granite polish using clean water, rinse then repeat until the residue is gone from the polish.

To keep that beautiful shine clean the surface daily using granite safe clean. Maintaining granite properly means a beautiful shine for years to come. Always use this process whenever you see the granite starting to look dull. Always clean up any spills immediately especially liquids. Never place hot pots and pans directly on a granite surface as it will scorch the granite. When using granite polish always wear protective gloves.

The best countertops to bring the décor of your kitchen together are quartz countertops. These countertops have tons of style and flair and blend in with any style kitchen.

Similar to granite countertops quartz countertops are durable and excellent to use in the kitchen. Manufactured quartz has the appearance of granite. The texture is more even without the natural grains that granite has.

There are many benefits to using natural stone as there are with quartz, which far outweigh the benefits of Formica and Corian. Quartz countertops are also easier to use with preparing food over granite countertops.

Quartz countertops have the same great qualities of laminate and natural stone. Quartz is used on many home remodeling jobs especially the last few years. The market for natural and quartz has increased in popularity dramatically. Granite is one of the most popular choices for interior designers and architects.

There is a small percentage of quartz countertops that are made of natural quartz, which has been cut from monolithic stone from stone quarries. A large percentage of quartz countertops that are sold today have been manufactured from a combination of mostly crushed quartz and polymers. These materials produce countertops that are mostly scratch proof and very easy to care for. This process also produces a wide variety of colors ranging from a translucent white to a sandy brown and of course monolithic black.

Homeowners love the wide range of colors and styles and many kitchens that have open floor plans have countertops with vivid colors and compliment the décor of the rest of the home. When renovating kitchens, interior designers follow the natural flow of the home making it very easy to decorate.

Some of the benefits of using quartz for countertops includes the durability of quartz whether its stone or manufactured. Quartz can also be installed as tiles or monolithic slabs and used in shower stalls. Some of the other benefits are the beautiful designer colors that are available and the various custom edges that can be made. When being installed quartz does not have to be sealed unlike granite countertops. Instead of preparing the surface for hardware, faucets can be directly placed on the quartz counter.

If you love to cook and live in your kitchen, you will love the fact that you can place hot pots and pans directly onto a quartz countertop with the fear of melting or discoloring the surface. Quartz is not a breeding ground for bacteria because there are no seams or porous surfaces for bacteria to accumulate. These countertops are virtually indestructible and most manufacturers have warranties.

If you are considering having quartz countertops installed in your kitchen, visit your local home improvement center to see the wide variety of styles, colors, and designs that are available. To find home improvement centers or home remodeling centers in your local area, all you need to do is search online. You can also check out home remodeling websites and check out their video and tutorials on how quartz countertops are made and installed.

Laminate counter tops have quickly gained popularity in recent years. With their wide variety of colors and designs, they can fit into any style of kitchen.

Laminate counter tops originated when homeowners started creating their own design of kitchens. They weren’t interested in the old fashioned wood counter tops, they wanted something with style and flair. Homeowners eventually chose laminate as the best material to fit into whatever style kitchen they wanted to create. Laminate has been popular ever since.

When you decide that you want laminate counter tops there are several things you should consider. The first thing you need to do is decide what color, design, or style best suits your needs. Take a look at the size of your current kitchen design and measure all of your counter tops. If you have a small space then you should choose a slim and compact counter top so your kitchen does not appear cramped.

There are several companies that offer a wide variety of laminate counter tops for your kitchen or anywhere else you have counter top space in your home. Some companies offer an oiled bronze, or a satin white design that are two of the hottest designs on the market. They are shiny with just a touch of gold, which makes them the perfect choice for anyone who wants a chique kitchen design. There are also companies that offer great color combinations and designs such as colors in the beige and gold families. There colors have been used for years and have recently made a comeback. They go great with just about any style kitchen.

Laminate is also very inexpensive and fits in with just about any budget. The average price range is between $5 and $30 a square foot. You may also be able to find cheaper prices at home improvement centers or discount home remodeling stores. Some laminate manufacturers not only have their products available through dealers but also have online stores as well. The best way to decide what color, design, or style is right for you is by ordering a sample. This will help you decide which one looks the best in your kitchen. There are also discounts that are offered by many companies some as much as 30%.

Beside the traditional colors and styles, laminate also comes in hardwood, granite and stone. They have the look and feel of the real thing. This is the perfect style for those that have a more rustic style of kitchen.

Laminate is also very easy to take care of. All it takes is a mild dish soap and water to clean up most spills and messes including stains from coffee and spaghetti sauce. Never use any type of abrasive on laminate. If you have a stain that is difficult to remove, try using baking soda and a mild household cleaning solution. Just wipe the area with a soft nylon brush. You can also use mild bleach if needed although it is not highly recommended.

No matter if you are creating a brand new kitchen or remodeling your existing kitchen the most important item are the kitchen countertops. Countertops are one of the most visible parts of the kitchen and the most used. Your choice of material plays an important part in appearance and the maintenance of your kitchen. There are some materials that are available such as stainless steel, ceramic tiles, stone composites, stone and various man made materials.

One of the most beautiful materials for kitchen countertops are ceramic tiles. There is a wide variety available and the only limits are your imagination and your budget. There are interior designers that specialize in creating kitchen designs that can help you design the ceramic tiles according to the style of your kitchen. This may be the best way to design your kitchen so that it is suitable for your needs. The only disadvantage is that there may be a bit more cleaning with ceramic tiles after preparing food. You can avoid this by have a sealant applied to the grout between the ceramic tiles to keep them clean and free from bacteria.

Another material that is easy to clean and makes a great appearance is stainless steel. It is very bright and shiny and can blend in with any style kitchen. Stainless steel can last for years and is very strong and durable. This is the perfect material for an active kitchen and can withstand cleaning using harsh chemicals. It is also scratch resistant, dent resistant and does not chip or crack. Your kitchen will always have a sleek, clean look to it with stainless steel.

Another material not many people consider is copper. Copper is a soft metal when it is pure and is very hygienic. Copper kills most bacteria that thrives in kitchen environments. As copper ages, it turns a beautiful soft brown color, which will give your kitchen a mellow appearance. However, because copper is a soft metal means that it will scratch easily. When this happens, all you need to do is gently buff or sand the area until it is smooth. After a few weeks, you will start to notice the warm brown colors reappearing.

There is also a wide variety of stones that can be used for kitchen countertops. Some of the more popular stones are granite, marble, slate and travertine. They come in a wide variety of colors and travertine has the largest variety of colors. The only disadvantage to choosing travertine is the pits and grooves that are a natural part of the stone. A filler must be used if you want the stone to have a smooth surface. Marble has a wide variety of colors and shades and is very smooth, however, marble is very porous by nature and has to have a sealant applied to prevent staining. The same applies for granite and the colors available are somewhat limited. Slate in its natural state is water resistant, stain resistant and easy to keep clean. Slate is also scratch resistant because of its very dense nature.

Many people make their bathrooms beautiful with mounted countertop around the sink area. If you are considering updating your bathroom, there is a wide variety of material you can use for the countertop or vanity. These materials are especially made to resist moisture, stain, mold and mildew. The price range can vary depending on the type of material you choose for the bathroom countertop.

Bathroom countertops can be beautiful and functional and your bathroom remodeler will be able to give you advice on colors, styles, and the proper shape for the greatest functionality. They are mainly used as space for toiletries and personal grooming products. Most people want bathroom countertops that are functional and can hold a wide variety of items. However, if you want to spruce up your bathroom add a countertop that has a touch of style and class. You will be amazed how the gives your bathroom a whole new look. Not only will a beautiful countertop update your bathroom but it will also increase the value of your property.

There is a wide variety of styles, colors and designs to choose from for bathroom countertops. A very popular material is marble. Marble has been used in bathrooms for years and comes in several different colors. However, there are a few pros and cons you may want to consider before choosing marble for your bathroom countertop.

There aren’t many cons with the exception of price. Marble can be very expensive. However, it is also lasts for years and is very strong and is unmatched by another other material. If you cannot afford marble, you can always choose a laminate that has the appearance of marble. Again, laminate can last for years and it’s very durable. It also resists mold and mildew making it a good choice for a bathroom countertop. The only con with laminate is that as it ages it is prone to cracking and peeling especially around edges and corners.

Another good choice is granite. Like marble granite is strong, durable and will last for years. It’s stain resistant, moisture resistant and will not mold or mildew. Since granite is a smooth surface that means no seams where bacteria can grow.

Choosing the right material for your bathroom countertop is a matter of choice for you and your home. If you prefer a contemporary style throughout your entire home then your best choice is a modern style bathroom countertop. If lean more towards the traditional style the choose materials that are more in the old traditional styles.

If you are undecided as to which style or material would best suit your needs you can always check out home improvement websites online. Search through their inventory of materials for bathroom countertops to see which style would be the right choice for your bathroom. When you visit the store be sure to check out a few tutorials at how you can install your own bathroom countertop.

If you are not the do it yourself type, you might want to consider hiring a contractor to install your new bathroom countertop. To make the job cheaper order the material you want for the countertop prior to the contractor starting the job.

A: Not necessarily, although light colors show wear less visibly and require less frequent maintenance. Any solid surface color should provide many years of dependable service.

Q: How should I care for solid surface on a daily basis?

A: Just wipe clean using soap and water. Ammonia-based cleaners, such as glass cleaner, give the surface a streak-free shine.

Q: Is solid surface hygienic?

A: Solid surface is inherently a nonporous material with smooth, impenetrable seams. Unlike other surfaces such as laminate, tile and granite, solid surface has no grout lines or ridges to trap dirt and germs. This extremely smooth surface makes it easy to clean. Solid surface can be fabricated as one continuous surface, such as a countertop, backsplash and sink, to reduce areas for bacteria to grow.

Q: How do I repair a scratch or cut?

A: Scratches and cuts can be buffed away with a light duty scrubbing pad and a mild abrasive cleanser.

Q: Will repairing or refinishing solid surface reveal a different color that won’t match the rest of the countertop?

A: Solid surface is homogenous, meaning it’s the same color and same material throughout. That’s why repairing scratches is so easy and allows the surface to continue to look like new.

Q: What edge treatments and other special options are available?

A: There are several edge treatments you can incorporate with your countertop design. Edge profiles are included on this website or you can ask for a brochure. If you don’t see the edge treatment you have in mind, let us know and we will try to fabricate it. In addition to edge treatments, color inlays can be incorporated as well as special features such as heat rails next to stoves for hot items and drainage channels leading to the sink.

Q: How long will solid surface last?

A: With proper care and maintenance, your countertops will last for many years. Solid surface is considered a renewable material and can be refinished to look like new. Depending on the brand of solid surface there is a 10 or 15 year limited warranty.

Q: Can you cut directly on the countertop?

A: Cutting directly on solid surface countertops is not recommended because it can scratch or cut the surface. However, with every kitchen countertop we do, we give a solid surface cutting board.

Q: While preparing meals, can I place raw vegetables and meats on the countertop?

A: Yes. Because solid surface is nonporous, germs and bacteria have nowhere to accumulate. In fact, solid surface is one of just a few surfaces approved for food preparation areas in restaurants. Before preparing a meal, make sure the surface is clean. Do not allow other food to come in contact with a surface where raw meat has been placed until the surface is thoroughly cleaned, preferably with a weak bleach solution.

Q: Will solid surface fade?

A: No. The acrylic resins used in solid surfaces are unaffected by the ultraviolet rays present in natural light, so it will not fade.

Q: What is the advantage of solid surface over granite?

A: If granite is not sealed regularly, it can become stained and harbor bacteria, viruses and mold. Seams in granite are also difficult to keep clean. Solid surface is nonporous with smooth, impenetrable seams to prevent germs and mildew. Solid surface is also more impact-resistant than granite, and custom designs are easier to fabricate.

Q: What is the advantage of solid surface over laminates?

A: Laminates may separate over time if exposed to moisture. Solid surface is solid and homogenous, impenetrable to moisture. Laminates may also be damaged easily by nicks and cuts, and cannot be repaired like solid surface.

Q: What is the advantage of solid surface over tile?

A: Tile has many seams where bacteria, viruses and mold can accumulate. Grout between tiles must be cleaned frequently and often cracks. Solid surface has smooth, impenetrable seams, is more impact-resistant than tile, and offers more edge treatments.

Q: If I buff out a scratch or stain with a light-duty scrubbing pad, and the area is not as glossy as the rest of the countertop, what should I do?

A: The finer the grit of cleaner or scrubber you use, the higher the gloss. For the highest gloss finishes, use a finer grit such as a white polishing compound with water and try to blend it with the rest of the countertop. Buff and dry with a smooth cloth.

Q: Can I add a solid surface sink or bowl to my existing solid surface countertops?

A: It is possible, but depends on the style of sink and the details of the existing installation.
We will be more than happy to take a look and see what we can do.

Q: Do I need to choose a sink and faucet before my countertop is installed?

A: Though there are some common fixture sizes, we highly recommend selecting the sink and faucet before your custom countertop is installed.

Q: The edge treatment I have in mind isn’t shown on the website or in the brochure. Are there other edge treatments to choose from?

A: Absolutely. We’ve provided examples of the most common edges. Let us know what you have in mind and we will do everything we can to fabricate your precise edge treatment.

Q: Can I purchase sheets of solid surface and install myself?

A: To ensure quality installation and full warranty, solid surface is only available to licensed fabricators.

Q: I heard I shouldn’t cut on solid surface. Can I use a solid surface cutting board?

A: As a separate piece, solid surface makes a great cutting board. However, cutting leaves small scratches on the surface that you wouldn’t want on your countertop.

Q: I’ve read that hot pans can scorch solid-surface materials. What can I do to prevent heat damage?

A: Solid surface is heat-resistant and will remain stable and undamaged up to 212 degrees F. However, high heat or flame can damage the surface. In most cases it can be repaired. Consistent exposure to heat may also cause yellowing to accrue. To protect the countertop, always use a heat pad or trivet. You can also request the addition of heat rails near a stove where hot pans can be placed without worry.

No special cleaning products are needed to keep your countertop looking great. However, damage may occur if your countertop is mistreated. To help prevent this from happening, we’ve listed a few simple ways to care for and maintain your countertops original elegance and beauty for years to come.

Do not cut directly on the Solid Surface; always use a cutting board. Run cold water when pouring water into sinks. Remove nail polish with a non-acetone-based nail polish remover and flush with water.

Every day general cleaning only requires a damp cloth and a mild cleaner. If you have a matte finish, you can use an abrasive cleaner like Ajax or Comet. If you do use an abrasive cleaner, we recommend periodically cleaning the entire surface in a circular motion to maintain uniformity. Avoid using strong acidic cleansers (those designed for drains, toilets or ovens). Some of them cause whitening, which can be difficult to remove. Other substances that may cause damage includes industrial chemicals such as strong acids, ketones and solvenated chlorine.

Solid Surface tops have excellent heat resistant property compared with other ordinary countertops. However, placing hot pans, as well as some heat-generating appliances such as frying pans or pot, can damage the surface. A few common sense precautions include not placing pans directly from the burner or oven on your countertops. They can withstand high temperatures however any prolonged or extreme heat may cause yellowing. Always use a hot pad or a trivet with rubber feet to protect your tops.

Troublesome spills and stains, such as food dye, tea or colored fruit drinks can be removed with full strength bleach followed by a general cleaner flushed with water. Be sure and remove any remaining bleach on the surface within five minutes. If a lit cigarette comes in contact with the countertop, a nicotine stain or a scorch mark may occur. Simple use an abrasive cleaner or buff in a circular motion with a Scotch Brite pad to remove.

Inevitably, your countertop will get scratched with everyday ware. For small, superficial scratches, simply wet an ultra-fine Scotch Brite pad and rub in a circular motion, then clean with soap and water and let dry. If you want to add additional shine to your countertop, apply a non-wax polish cleaner to a dry surface and wipe clean. For deep scratches,
